Found hiatle hernia pre surgery not sure if they will fix it during surgery or not just yet....

Is this something I should recommend to the Dr . .

Would you say recovery after for someone with this is more dangerous or difficult

I had a Hiatal hernia as well when I got my sleeve done, they will most likely correct it while they are operating on you, I didn't know what it was til after I had the surgery, best of luck

I had a hiatal hernia. The doctor said he would fix it if it was big enough. Apparently it was big enough and he fixed it. My recovery has been normal and pretty easy. I was on pain meds for 5 days. I felt fine after that just lower energy for the first 3 weeks after surgery. I started exercising full on 4 weeks after surgery (Crossfit/equinox). This has been the best decision of my life even though towards the end of the mushy phase I was hating life a bit.

I didn’t know I had one until after my surgery. My doctor told me he fixed it. I haven’t had any reflux since. I’m a happy camper.

I have a hiatal hernia also. My surgery date is March 26 I'm having a revision from lap-band to RNY. Doctor is planning to do it all in one surgery including the hernia repair.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
