Psoriasis, any improvement?

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure where to put this. I am curious if anyone who has psoriasis saw improvement after the surgery?

I have a few spots here and there but have a smaller dinner plate area on my thigh. I am just hoping for some relief in that area too.

This is a question for your surgeon. He or she would be the best one to answer that for you.

I too have psoriasis, haven't had my surgery yet.You bring up a good point, since it is an auto-immune disease it easily could improve. I even have, psoriasis in my nailbeds, makes them slightly misshapen and I have putting if you run your fingers over the nail surface. I have a good friend who has it much worse than either of us, his arms usually look like alligator skin. He has creams to

help, with it but seldom used them. Says it's too much of a bother. Did you know we share this disease with Cyndi Lauper, the singer? Truth! ,,,,,,,,,,,,i haven't had my surgery yet, if I do I'll be sure to let you know if I do. In the meantime welcome to Bariatric Pal if nobody ever bothered welcoming you.

Thank you very much for that!!

I have cream(doesn't help a great deal, I use corona cream once a day and it least keeps it hydrated and less itchy) and refuse to do shots unless I have to. I also have it on my scalp so I'm freaked out about thinning hair showing that feature to everyone.

I have a small patch on my lower arms, I worried at my age it could be skin cancer, my PCP just let out a small giggle and said it's just Mr P showing up again. I said I may just kill you Junior, he's like 45 or 46. I really do like the guy, I'm just enough older I want to rein him in.

Sorry for reviving an old post, if that's a thing we aren't supposed to do. (Some forum communities really frown on it, while others are fine with it. I'm new enough not to know the norms, here.) I just wanted to see if anyone who has had the surgery since this went up has anything to report back.

I did a ton of research about psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (I have both), and in several small studies (aren't all the PsA studies small? it's so frustrating... but then, I guess it's not a very common disease!) the results were really astounding. Enough so that I'm surprised more PsA patients aren't being pushed toward the surgery, with its one-time cost, rather than biologics which can be something like $4k/month forever.

Since I'm allergic to several of the biologics, and methotrexate isn't quite enough for me, alone, WLS is my best shot at getting my arthritis under control. That's why I'm doing it. I might talk, in some other threads, about things like fitting into airline seats and buying smaller clothes, but honestly? The pain is awful, and if I'm in the lucky group whose PsA is driven into remission, my life will be so much more amazing, even if I only lose like 10 pounds. If I'm in the unlucky group, but I lose a lot of weight, I'll still have a lot less pain in my feet and knees, even if the arthritis stays bad. So it seems like a good decision for me, either way.

I have scalp psoriasis, too, so I'm hopeful that I can prevent massive Hair loss. It's a risk, definitely.

Anyway, thanks for any information any of you have! <3

Well my surgery is the 5th of September, we will See what we will See.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
