Regain while traveling for work

Recommended Posts

Hey y’all, I am post op RNY 2 years, and down almost 130lbs. I just accepted a new job which takes me away from home for 3 weeks at a time each month. I just returned from my first trip and while away i regained some weight!!!!! Ahhhhh! Now that I’m seeing that, I’m noticing the ability to eat a little bit more than I was before at a time...has anyone experience this? What do you recommend when living in a hotel room for 3 weeks at a time? I didn’t want to buy a lot of stuff while I was down there this past trip because i would then have to throw it away if not used before I come home (travel is between PA and TX). Thanks :)

If your hotel has a gym or a pool. I would suggest increasing your cardio.

Work travel was (and is) really difficult because you’re eating out 3 meals a day and there’s always the damned hotel all-you-can-eat Breakfast buffet, plus I used to take it as a personal challenge to use my entire meal allowance. On previous and long business trips, I used to avoid major weight gain by going to the hotel gym every morning and getting a parking space that involved a long walk to the office. Fortunately all of my business travel is to my employer’s field offices, and they all sell high-protein, low-carb Snacks such as cheese and pepperoni or hard-boiled eggs.

Sounds like a great company! Mine tries that too but my annoying co- workers bring junk food in all the time. Once this MN weather moves into spring I can walk at work to avoid the lunches with the junk eaters😊

i travel for work once a month and I always buy groceries and food prep the way i do at home. i've never had to throw food out, so I'm not sure I understand that concern. I don't shop for more than a week's worth of food even at home...

I’m glad you have figured out a way to successfully travel and stick to a plan you have at home. This is my first experience traveling post op and i found out the hard way I can’t meal prep the way I do at home here. (Hotel doesn’t provide proper accommodations like a home has)

all i have is a mini-fridge. I pick up 4 packs of my premier. I buy fresh fruit. nuts and eggs for Snacks and sometimes salads. when i eat out I usually order a salad with extra meat and that works for 2 meals. I really only need to food prep for breakfasts and snacks. you just need to think about it and plan. my plan always includes the meals out.

go back to using myfitnesspal or any other tracking ap if you need to.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
