az062217vsg 40 Posted March 10, 2018 Hi all, I am 9 months post op from VSG. I’m wondering if it common to develop hypoglycemia post op? My bariatric NP ordered a 3 hour glucose tolerance test and my glucose levels were below normal. If you have experienced this, what did they do? Is it long-term? Thanks! James Marusek 5,244 Posted March 10, 2018 Several individuals develop a condition called reactive hypoglycemia after gastric bypass surgery. fruitandveggies 456 Posted March 13, 2018 I'm developing a serious case of RH a year out. It seems like anything I eat will cause the reaction. I live with a bag of grapes nearby right now. I'm so thankful I work from home because I need to lie down about 90 minutes after each meal, like clockwork! I really hope this passes.

KateBruin 344 Posted March 25, 2018 I developed such severe hypoglycemia one day and almost needed to divert a cross country flight. My blood sugar crashes more easily than before but is otherwise good. The extremely low blood sugar that one day was terrifying. Surgeon said it isn’t abnormal. ahipchik1965 15 Posted March 28, 2018 I too have severe episodes of low blood levels between 50 & 60. My primary care doc said to get a glucose test kit, which I did. Some days it was so severe it felt like I would die....well not really but nearly pass out. Turns out nothing else wrong except hypoglycemia. I guess that is what we have to deal with after severe weight loss and not being able to eat much and keep it in our stomachs. Glad to know others have the same issue though.
