I've got vascular reflux...a nasty little situation where leaky vein valves can cause edema and crappy circulation in my lower legs.

Probably the thing I most love about my recent weight loss....other than my stellar labs and being off almost all my meds.....is my feet and ankles.

My calves used to have horrible pitted edema. Like...stick your thumb on my shin for a minute... and it would leave a dent you could put a grape in. Was pretty ghastly.

I was a prime candidate for lymphedema legs, cellulitis, and lots of other problems. My legs hurt all the time. If I was on my feet too much, my ankles would be tree trunks, and my feet would swell to where the tops would dome up where you tie your shoes and be mushy edema...and my toes would kinda poke out from under the dome. It looked awful. It hurt. It made wearing shoes a pain in the arse to get a workable fit. And I thought I was stuck with it forever:)

Ever since I hit about 220...my feet have been gorgeous. No more domes. You can see the little tendons working when I wiggle my toes again. My ankles look like ankles...not cankles. There's very little edema in my legs now and i couldn't be more grateful.

I just ordered some sandals and got a bunch of colors of toe nail polish.

My feets are coming out:) They're pretty average feet, really....but I think they're gorgeous.

If you've got lower leg edema....you're gonna be so happy when this happens for you.

Love, love, loving my new feets and ankles!

Hear, hear! I only had one “fat foot.” Could make the same dent with a finger press. No tendons visible. Now I can’t tell which foot used to be Fat Foot. So nice. Edema sucks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
