HI there! This is my first post. I am pretty sure I'm going to go ahead with this surgery. I've been reading up on it here, have had several family members or friends that have had excellent outcomes and I am comfortable with the risks and the level of dedication that I know I need to have.

My first appointment is with the surgeon March 19. I have TRICARE Select (formerly Standard), and after calling them I know they will approve the surgery based on their requirements. Has anyone had the surgery with TRICARE and did they have a 6 month waiting period? How did it work for you? The Dr's office said they have their own qualifications but it's pretty much driven by my insurance agency.

I would love any info you can share!

No 6 month waiting period. 2nd tricare person asking today. Anyways, try to find the FB group. Weight loss surgery with Tricare. You can read through that and ask questions

Awesome, thank you! I searched for tricare threads and didn’t find any, but I didn’t know about that FB group!

I did, thanks! It sounds like it’s mostly my surgeon’s requirements that may take some time, but TRICARE seems to be likely to approve it according to what I’m seeing. That board is a wealth of knowledge.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
