Surgery date before insurance authorization?

Recommended Posts

I was given a surgery date weeks in advance of even completing some of the pre-surgical requirements. I wondered about that myself, but my patient rep said that she does that when she's confident that approval will go through.

Totally understand how you feel. I was a little stunned and afraid to be too excited because I don't have the approval yet.

I also was given a date before full authorization from Blue Cross. I finally got the letter I was approved 3 days ago and my surgery is on Monday. Total turnaround time about a month and a half.

And on the day you folk have your surgery April 25th I have a 2 hour psychologist appointment at Martha Morehouse Pavilion at OSU and I will be praying for your surgeries to be the start of beautiful healthy sunny days for all of you. My own? Oh so much pivots on a successful appointment for me. How do I convince someone of my worthiness? Is it sufficent to be simply myself? How do I get through this with peace in my soul and still appear mature and competent? I know I'm tying myself up in "nots", maybe all my worries are in vain. I feel a liitle like that King in the. Bible book of Daniel, I may have been weighed in the balances and found wanting. Maybe I'm too intelligent for my own good! But relaxing,is so danged difficult about this! When this is passed (see I am still hopeful) I will move ahead with speed as I finished prerequirements already in another program. I suspect anywhere from a few weeks to a month? Anybody ready, for a chorus of "Our day will come" a good old 60s song?

I am scheduled for 4/16 but I am still waiting for insurance approval. I am a BMI of 37 and my only comorbidity is arthritis. It is bad arthritis though, in fact I had a knee replacement at 36 years old (1.5 years ago). Let’s hope for the best!

When I go for my final appointment in August with the surgeon they schedul my date along with a bunch of other stuff. But there is a 24 day step between the final and surgery because there is a 3 week starch free phase then 2 days of Clear Liquids the 2 days leading up to surgery

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
