Morning acid indigestion issues

Recommended Posts

So anyone out there who is suffering from I think acid indigestion?

I am 3 weeks post op and it just started this week (well maybe got worse) - I am waking up with what I think is acid indigestion/gerd? I can't eat Breakfast nor want to drink anything. It takes a good few hours to get better after I wake up. It's a horrible feeling. I am taking my meds still and Mylanta everyday. I take it in the morning as well but it doesn't help for few hours atleast.

What is this? Anyone else have this issue? Any remedy/suggestions to make this go away?

Put blocks under your bed's feet at the head of head of the bed. Even a 3-4 inch incline will do a lot to improve morning GERD.

I will try that. I feel like the acid is up to my throat - maybe its Regurgitation? I have no idea what this is but it's very uncomfortable for sure.

I wrote to my doc's office. I am waiting for them to respond and or even prescribe me something. Its hard to explain when you don't know what it is really :(

Didn't they put you on something for acid after surgery? At my group, we all take omeprazole for four months to aid in healing.

Yes they did. I am taking it twice daily plus Mylanta 20 mins before each meal.

I was able to talk to the doctor. He suggested I take Gaviscon Dual Action.

So I'll go get that and try it out. He also said that I should start off my day with warm tea or something warm so it soothes the acids.

Try green tea or a soothing herbal mixture, no peppermint per my gastroenterologist. When I was little my godmother would give me peppermint to soothe my tummy, now he says pepper is in the beginning of the word for a reason.

ok I am back again.

Nothing and I tell you nothing has helped me so far. I have elevated my bed and my pillows, I am taking omeprazole, gaviscon, zantac, ginger teas, milk, yogurt

I am so desperate to get help! My acid reflex is not getting any better. I am miserable:(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
