Hi Everyone!

I haven’t logged into this website in quite some time but I am back on the journey to wls. Would any of you mind posting the pre-op diet you followed? It would be a great help to me as I need to get as much weight off as possible.

Thanks in advance!

I am starting my pre-op on Monday. My surgeon wants me to do Protein Shakes for Breakfast and lunch then a sensible dinner. I’m thinking it shouldn’t be to bad. But still nervous as heck.

When are you scheduled for surgery?

I’m not currently scheduled (it’s a long story of being approved for surgery but backing out) but this time when I meet the surgeon I want to be at least close to the goal weight he gave me before. Did your surgeon recommend a particular Protein Drink? I know you will be fine, it’s just about getting used to your new eating habits.

I am actually doing Premier Protein shakes and drinks. Not sure what my taste buds will let me get down after surgery. I hear a lot about how things taste afterwards. But I have some propel and other little things to try just to help get fluids down afterwards.

I started my journey a couple years ago. I was going to do the sleeve. But I backed out. Didn't care for the surgeon or facility. And nerves. Recently I found my surgeon on YouTube. Dr. Matthew Weiner he makes a lot of informative videos I started watching to get info on what surgery I wanted and what to expect. Then realized he was near me and I made an apt for Feb 23rd and I am scheduled for my surgery on March 21st. Everything has just gone perfectly.

my plan was 3x Protein drink (specific ones IdealFast, I think they are only for Canada) and 1cup of boiled or raw veggies.

Does anyone know if the clear Protein Drinks are allowed during the clear liquid stage? Also if you are worried about not liking a Protein Powder, and you have Amazon prime. you can purchase individual servings for $2, and you get an equal credit to spend on a full size (any brand so you use multiple credits at once).

Thanks for your input. How long was your pre op diet?

my pre-op was supposed to be 4 weeks due to my high BMI, after they added 5 more weeks due to a technical issue. The last 5 weeks I could have a semi-regular diet but had to limit sugar and fat.

I lost a good amount of weight on my 4 first week but when I went to a "regular" diet I was on a stall. But from switching to only liquid and back to food and not gaining weight I think I had good success :1295_raised_hands_tone1:

I hope it doesn't happen to a lot of people because trust me that was a LONG 9 weeks.

I met with the nutritionist at my surgeon's office and she told me for the first month of my insurance-mandated three month pre-op diet to limit carbs to just the morning and cut out carbonated drinks. Since I'd tried Aktins/Keto before I figured I'd just go with that. I met with her again five weeks later, having lost 13lb and based on my success she told me not to change a thing for month two.

As for my routine: For work days I found the Kirkland (Costco) brand Protein Bars and have one for breakfast, then a hard boiled egg and/or string cheese for a morning snack. lunch is spinach salad with carb free dressing, a chunk of some kind of lean meat (often leftover from the previous night's dinner), and some raw broccoli.

Afternoon snack is a low carb yogurt and/or another string cheese. If I want a snack when I get home I'll have a chunk of cheddar or some Pork rinds. I also bought some Carb-Quik baking mix on Amazon, it's like Bisquick but 95% Fiber so very low net carbs and I'll have one or two biscuits made from that a day with butter to satisfy my bread craving.

dinner is more spinach salad, another chunk of meat/fish or a low-carb recipe like sausage and cream cheese stuffed jalapenos and a vegetable.

Weekends are similar but I'll have eggs and a biscuit for breakfast instead of the Protein Bar and I also bought the 5lb drum of Cookies and Cream Protein Shake mix from costco which I prefer to make with unsweetened almond milk instead of Water. However, twice since I began I felt I ate too much the previous day so I did a full day of nothing but the Protein drinks all day and a smaller dinner.

Very important of course is getting the 64oz of water a day. I found boxes of 8 packets of Hawaiian Punch fruit punch and Wyler's lemonade for $1 each at a local discount store and stocked up big time to ensure I don't get tired of plain water.

I'm also fortunate that my surgeon said I do not need to do a pre-op liquid diet as many surgeons recommend.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
