Lapband removal

Recommended Posts

1 week til the start of my new journey! Lapband removal then waiting 4-6 months to get a bypass. I have had my band for almost 11 years and it will be hard to say goodbye :( Anyone else go thru this and have any struggles to share with me about that in between time? Thanks!

Oh flower! I parted ways with my 9 year old band last December but was hugely lucky enough to get the “All in one” - removal and surgery and my RNY same op - mind you, I had to have open surgery. But now, all is fan-bloody-tastic just 12 weeks later!

My only words of advice - be kind to yourself. You might gain a bit of weight over this time but as far as you can manage, don’t go wild and pack the food in because it will make the post-bypass weightloss that much longer, you’ll regret it. But be kind because unfamiliar hunger will remake your acquaintance! Try and remember your good rules - and be kind when you slip!

Time will pass...

Hey marly18, I'm having my gastric bypass March 26 and will also be saying goodbye to my band of 16 years. My procedure will all be done at the same time. May I ask why you are having to remove your band and then doing the RNY at a later date? When I first entertained the idea of having my revision I kind of figured it might be done at two separate times, but after my consultation with my surgeon he said he would do it all at one time. He is also repairing a hernia too.

I had my Lap-band removed after 10 years last year (got too tight). Despite giving it my all, I gained back quite a bit of weight over 9 mos (most people do). I had a mini gastric bypass in September and that weight is gone again. My advice is to do your best. Keep up with good habits like regular exercise and eating well and try not to be hard on yourself if you put some weight on. Good luck!

My dr said the area needs to heal before doing the bypass. I thought that was the norm but now I am wondering. hmmmm.

And yea mine suddenly got too tight after not having an adjustment in probably 5 years. Had to have some Fluid removed and felt much better. Have also been having a big problem with night coughs for over a year now and have tried allergy, asthma, and reflux treatments to no avail. Hoping that the removal will help relieve my cough. I have been reading about others with a band having this problem too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
