Am I overfilled?

Recommended Posts

I had a fill about a week ago and since about that time I have felt like my throat is swelling. I went to my regular doctor and told him about it and that I thought maybe I was over filled with my band and asked if he thinks that could be the issue. He said he thought I was having anxiety and prescribed me Xanax. When I take the medication my throat seems to relax and I dont feel tight anymore but then when it wears off the tightening in my throat comes back. I cant imagine having anxiety every day for a week you would think it would go away if thats what was really going on. I am wondering if I am over filled maybe. I am not really sure though because I dont have trouble eating anything and nothing gets stuck. I am going to call my band doc tomarrow but I dont want to get an unfill if I am just having some major anxiety. I wonder if any of you can give me your opinion on if it sounds like anxiety or a problem with my band.

Wow. You know, I read the title of this thread and I thought, I'm going to go find one of my old posts and link to it instead of retyping the same thing again, which is that if you suspect you're overfilled, you're overfilled, plain and simple.

Shows what I know, because I actually think you're the first one I've seen whom I don't think is overfilled! Sounds like anxiety. 4 cc's in a 10cc band is almost like nothing. It takes 3-4 cc's to hold the VG in place -- in a neutral position. I have a VG and I had 4 cc's put in in surgery. My first fill took me to 6 cc's.

Anyway, give yourself some time. If the anxiety doesn't subside, don't discount there being something else physical going on, but it doesn't sound, from your description, to be that you're overfilled. I can't believe I'm saying that!

Good luck and take care,

If you were overfilled you would not be able to get anything solid down. Sounds like anxiety, hey just sit back and enjoy the xanax!

My throat feels like that after I have eaten sometimes. I am waiting out until my next appt on 11/7.

Julie - what is your fill in your VG band? I had 6 for my first one and then an additional 3 on my second fill.

9.5. I had 10 for a year, then backed out 0.5 at my year checkup because I needed to eat a little more volume (oddly enough) and ahve the pouch empty a little quicker, per my doc. Never had probs at 10, just precautionary.

I had 4 at surgery, 6.2 at first fill, 7.6 at second fill, 10 at 3rd fill. Stayed there for just over a year, then backed down to 9.5. I'll probably stay here for life (knock on wood).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
