7 to 10 weeks is normal in Australia.

1st Appointment: 17th July

Date Announced: 4th Sept (7 weeks after 1st appt))

Operation Date: 12th Oct (12 weeks after 1st appt)

It all depends on your insurance or if you are paying out of pocket. If you are paying out of pocket, then it is up to the Surgical Center. Most do a 30 - 90 trial. Some require 6 months of supervision.

If you're using your insurance, then each person's insurance is different. I had to wait 6 months of supervision before I could get a pre-approval which took about 10 days. Then I was scheduled for surgery and had to do a 2-week pre-op diet.

Same here. It really depends on your insurance. Mine required a 6 month supervised program. One that was completed the paper work gets submitted and that can take anywhere from another 2-4 weeks. I got caught up in the end of year rush so it took a bit longer than normal.

Not sure what you mean by 'pre-op' appointment. Your very first appointment or the 'pre-op appointment' two weeks before surgery. My clinic had the latter type AFTER my six month program of monthly NUT appts, after all my clearance appts, after EGD, etc. It was the last chance to see surgeon before starting liquid diet to get questions answered, last minute info exchange, get my cleansing cloths.

If you have a 6 month program, either required by clinic or insurance/both - use this time wisely to learn all you can about the surgery, the changes you need to work on, your relationship to food, etc. Good luck.

Hoping all goes smooth for you!

My whole process went much smoother than I anticipated. I started in December (11th) and insurance gave the pre-approval for the three month program (by 3 months it meant Dec., Jan., and Feb., not 90 days). Did all my steps -- only hiccup was a faulty EKG machine that led to me having an echocardiogram that came out fine. Had my final nutritional meeting on February 19th and the next day I got the call with my surgery date of March 7th pending insurance approval which came 3 days later.

Now I just have to make it two more days through this liquid diet!

Harder than I thought. I thought I had prepared well by doing a strict 1200 calorie diet for two months, but nothing could prepare me for the lack of chewable food. I liked Protein Shakes a week ago, I resent them now, but I think it's a good thing to go through one or two weeks of this to really make sure you're making the right decision. Saturday was a tough day physically, mentally, and emotionally, and if I wasn't committed to this lifestyle change, I would have run to the kitchen (or Taco Bell -- I saw a commercial and cried; I don't even like Taco Bell).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
