I have my surgery on the 17th March but I have no idea what to expect honestly, I’m worried my eating habits will come back.. I have a huge addiction to Pasta, can I even eat that anymore after surgery? How often? Etc.. I don’t want to end up eating it if I screw my self over! I also want to know how people deal with their chocolate cravings? I age a huge sweet tooth and I’m guessing chocolate, cakes etc even if it’s small amounts is out of the picture after surgery?

You will be just fine! You can eat whatever you want in moderation but be careful with Pasta & chocolates. There are many better choices to fill a half a cup every 3 hours.

From the support groups I have attended, many of the participants have said that their tastes and desires in food changed radically. One guy related a really telling story. He used to love burgers and fries and now just the sight of red meat makes his stomach flip. I think rather than worry, you kind of have to ride it out and see what happens.

Crystalbear, I've also read that your tastes can change. You may not even like certain foods anymore. I only got sleeved last week, but apparently I don't like cream Soups anymore. LOL It literally tastes like I'm putting flour in my mouth.

I never really liked cream Soups to begin with at all. I am suffering through having the one per day that is required on Optifast.

I hope you received diet progression instructions from your surgeon. Did you get a Protein goal to hit?

Honestly you just need to concentrate on a piece of Protein and fresh fruits and vegetables you may need to supplement a Protein Shake or Protein Bar to get the required amount of protein a day. You’re totally overthinking this. Calm down take a few deep breath’s all will be good.

Thank you guys! I’ll try not to worry I guess it’s more of a just in case thing, I’ve ears Pasta isn’t good very often so I kinda just wanted to know (if I still actually enjoy it) how often you could have it before it causes a problem?

Do you know why it's required? I pretty much threw all my pre-bought cream Soups away cuz they tasted so gross. I hope I'm not missing out on something important. Eek!

Nah, you're not. I compared the Optifast Soups to the shakes and the difference between them is that the soups have 300mg more of sodium. I just feel guilty for wasting them.

@Crystalbear Are you getting the sleeve or the bypass? The bypass has some restrictions due to dumping syndrome so you really have to watch the carbs but you'll want to watch them because I hear that dumping syndrome is abject misery.

I have started my 9 day diet..:: my surgery day is March 13... I absolutely love chocolate... I have had my choc funeral... just Incase I can’t have it after surgery... (my mother in law also had the sleeve about 7 months ago, she said choc now gives her such horrible heart burn.. she said it isn’t worth it anymore hahaha).. does anyone know if there is a limit of fluids I should be taking in a day on the liquid diet... it says 64oz.. but I get well over that... is that going to be an issue?????

@logicwand But this Optifast liquid only diet is tough enough. If the thought of those cream Soups is nauseating, so be it. I am choking them down because if I didn't, I would not have enough shake mix.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
