My husband and sister were sleeved here in Atlanta and had to do 2 weeks of liquid pre-op. However my aunt in Las Vegas did not. I am in Illinois and did not have to do the 2weeks of liquids before surgery. It was only 2 days. However after surgery the first 2 weeks are liquid for me. The World In My Eyes 10 Posted March 17, 2018 My surgery is on the 28th and I am on day 4 of a 10 day liquid diet of 3 Protein Shakes a day and 2 low fat greek yogurts. Two days before surgery Clear Liquids only: Water, no calorie drinks, Jello and broths. I don't feel hungry but I am already sick of drinking the Protein shakes even though I have several different flavors that I like but only being able to drink these is making me hate them. I try and stay busy so I don't think about it too much. The 28th can't come soon enough.Mine is the 28th too and I am on an all liquid diet (sugar free items) for 2 weeks. Unlike you, I do feel hungry a lot. They said females can only have between 60-70 grams of protein, which means 2 shakes for me and one yogurt. The rest is sugar free jello’s, puddings and Soups with no chunks. How have you managed to stay full? Have you tried the ready made Premier Proteins? The chocolate and Bananas and Cream are really good.

I didnt know that females can only have 60-70 grams of protein, I definitely have way more than that. Maybe that is why I am not hungry as I am getting a lot of protein. I am getting around 100-110 a day between the 3 shakes and 2 greek yogurts. I use the ready made Premier Protein shakes and have tried all of the flavors. I like the strawberry and chocolate the best but also have some of the vanilla, banana and caramel flavors to mix it up.
PeacockConnie 17 Posted March 18, 2018 I'm a patient of Dr. Hanna here in Vegas. I am currently on my pre-op diet. 2 Protein Shakes and a meal of 4 oz. Protein with a veggie. Two days before surgery (3/26 surgery day!!) I will move to all liquid diet. My BMI is 50. I was told the diet was to shrink my liver.Sent from my LG-LS997 using BariatricPal mobile app
istytehcrawk 256 Posted March 18, 2018 I had my surgery in St. Louis and did not have to have a pre-op liquid diet, just maintain a 1,400-calorie diet from my last pre-op appointment until surgery (16 days).

My husband and sister were sleeved here in Atlanta and had to do 2 weeks of liquid pre-op. However my aunt in Las Vegas did not. The reason for the pre-op diet is that it needs to be high Protein to put you into ketosis so that your liver shrinks dramatically prior to surgery (the liver can get in the way if it doesn't and some doctors don't like to use a major device to move it out of the way). The reason so many doctors prescribe the liquid diet is that it's a lot easier for people to stick to. Mixing some shakes is a lot easier to follow than making sure you cut out most of the carbs from your diet. Edited March 18, 2018 by aNYCdb
Chandni 15 Posted March 19, 2018 My surgeon doesn't require 2 weeks liquid diet. Mindful low carb, high Protein eating is all she wants. I still want to exchange two meals with shakes though just to be on the safe side lol I'm in Germany, MIC Clinic Berlin

My nutritionist said it depends on the weight of the person not the gender. Basically a huge person needs more protein than a thin person. At my current size my requirements are 120g protein at least. I'd check about that again, but that's what I have learned from several sources.

Thank you for responding:) I weigh 229 and my BMI is 39%, I’ve lost 21 pounds before I could see the dr (that’s how the VA system works before the army sees us, in the area I live in anyway). They make every patient do a two week liquid diet, I’m sure all have a hard time and we are all different sizes I noticed when I went to a class. I’m may not as big as some other patients but I am hangry ha ha!!
