I’m new here. New to this process as well. I’ve been reading here, there and everywhere and trying to learn and be prepared. I’m having wide ranges of emotions. I’m grateful to have found this forum!

Quick synopsis

1. Made up my mind I don’t want to die from obesity

2. First consult visit 3/2/2018 -5’6, 242lbs = 39.1 BMI. Need to be 248 = 40.1 BMI to qualify.

3. Rescheduled for 3/26/2018

Feels weird to gain to lose. More emotions

Don't poo before you go in, put rocks in your pockets, keep your keys on you, get weighed with your shoes on or wearing a jacket. Let your body fudge a little if it gets you your surgery. That's probably the weight that will go on your chart to meet insurance requirements. And if you're lighter the visit after that, goody for you. They'll just chalk it up to you getting into the program.

I have to fast for 8 hours before my appointment for blood work and a metabolic test. I’ve been eating so much. Still not gaining. This 8 pounds is so frustrating!!

Can you drink Water during the fast? I used to consume at least 2.5 pounds of just plain water and it worked for me. Just a thought...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
