How much walking did everyone do first week post-op? I have a treadmill and I’ve been walking 4x per day for about 15-20 minutes each time.

I walked about two miles the day of surgery...in the ward halls. Day two, I walked five miles...and at least five miles every day since.

Am a bit of a FitBit addict. Just had my 3 month check and my doc told me to cut back on walking to 12,000 steps and to do more swimming.

Walking is the bee's knees. You can start slow and work up very easily. You can do it anywhere. The health benefits are amazing.

5 miles per day is impressive. How many times per day do you walk and how far each time?

I upped my time and speed this morning during my first walk. I walked for 30 minutes at 2.5 mph. I’m working my way up to 3 mph.

I walk with a fitbit and keep track of my steps all day. Usually I have two thirty to sixty minute walks, though. Just depends on what my day allows...how I squeeze it in.

If I'm running errands, doing a lot of cleaning, mowing lawns or stuff like that....the steps add up on their own.

I started out walking 5,000 steps a day. When my doc told me to cut back I was walking about 20,000 each day.

12,000...which is about 5.8 miles at my stride length...is his goal for me. Swimming more now:) Apparently, it's a good idea to diversify your workout for maximum benefit.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
