trouble with protein drinks

Recommended Posts

I am almost 3 weeks post op RNY (2/12/18) and I'm doing great with getting in my fluids but having a really hard time with Protein. I thought it would be easier with drinking Protein Shakes but every time I drink them I get terribly nauseous. I'm on soft foods and tolerating cottage cheese, blended tuna salad, eggs, fish, yogurt, etc but just can't eat enough of it to meet protein goals.

anyone else have this problem? I've tried Premier Protein pre made shakes and Syntrax Nectar powders. I also have some Isopure unflavored powder ive tried mixing a little into my foods but It's basically not making a difference because I can only eat a few tblspoons at a time anyway.

does anyone else have this issue? any recommendations for a Protein Powder or drink that may be easier on the digestive tract?

This phase is one of the harder transitions, I became sooo averse to any thick shakes. I diluted ready-made Isopure blue raspberry with crystal light lemonade and drank it all day long - one bottle is 40gr and then tuna salad and cottage cheese or high Protein yogurt like Siggi made up the difference. Hang in there as swelling and healing take place you will be able to eat more solid protein.

Also Bone Broth Soups, it has more protein than regular broth - blend chicken and black Beans with chicken bone broth add some spices.

I had the same issue but that Protein linked above was sent from the angels above. Literally just put a scoop in six ounces of Water, shake it up, and drink! I mixed it right in the water bottle! Easy breezy.

The strawberry is my fave. :)

I have had the same issue! I am now about 7 weeks post op (RNY 01/08/18) I had an endoscopy done and found out I have an ulcer. I am on meds and the nausea is gettin better. Just make sure you talk to your Dr. I still struggle with getting my Protein in...a few bites and I feel like I’m going to be sick, even if it’s a liquid

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
