My Edoscopy showed chronic gastritis

Recommended Posts

Will this affect my chances of surgery? Or complicate the process?

Not a bit:) Some outrageous number like 50% plus of the stomachs they remove for bariatric surgery show signs of chronic gastritis when they send them in to histology.

They found chronic gastritis on my endoscopy, too. As long as you don't have helicobacter pylori...there shouldn't be any issue.

My doc said I probably got it from taking a lot of ibuprofen.

It did not affect my sleeve surgery. Had my endoscopy, and was sleeved 5 weeks later.

I know I did, I have arthritis and often took 3-4 to keep on top of pain. Hector(my baby ulcer) was from that, like Creekimp no h.pylori. I'm told my WLS will help with him and the gastritis.

So they did a biopsi to see if i have that, and if i do what would that cause? Not being able to do surgery?

Helicobacter Pylori is a common bacteria that causes Peptic ulcers. It's unknown how it's transmitted and why some people become infected with it and others don't. Sometimes an infection will cause Peptic ulcers and contribute to stomach cancer, and sometimes it will be harmless. It is generally treated with a couple of different antibiotics and a deacidifier. It takes two or more weeks to cure it.

If there is any danger you have an infection, you need to know about it BEFORE you have surgery, so it can be treated and resolved before it causes complications.

Even if you have it...it would just cause a slight delay while you treat it.

Don't be worried, if you have it, it won't be the end of the world. Its pretty easily fixed and like my friend Creek Imp said, it won't slow you down that much. The reason my ulcer has a name? Well,i've named things since I was a teeny tiny girl, haven't been this big quite all my life, I only started out at 7lb12oz, my problem was food agreed too good with me. Plus I grew up in the day when fat=healthy, Mamma did her best to make sure everybody thought she was doing a good job. I laid those hungry little fat cells down early. Now they get peeved because I'm starving them to death.
Hector, I chose the name because he's hectoring me and making his presence known. He complains by cramping and whining when my stomach is all empty. A problem is he doesn't always shut up when I eat. He doesn't like spices, tomatoes, peppermint, and he gets hateful when I drink coffee. That's okay, I wanted to quit caffeine anyway, it and soda don't get a place in my diet anyway anymore. A lot if other foods have lost their appeal, don't know if it's all him, but sweets, Snacks and such, they're gone also. And I think I'm better for it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
