March 2018 Success Stories

Recommended Posts

I had gastric bypass in October 2017. I have since lost 78 pounds and 10 inches in my waist. I have fortunately not had any major issues and have no regrets. The usual issues such as contstipation and gas but nothing else.

I have gotten my life back, I have stopped taking all my medicines(16 a day and now none) I no longer have chronic back pain and can tie my own shoes. Lol

I till have 40 lbs to lose and excited to get there. By summer I should be at goal.

Well hiccups are spasms of your diaphragm, it's probably cranky for all the things that happened in its neighborhood . Did you have a hernia repair also? If you did they stitch up a hole in your diaphragm and that would definitely make me crabby.[emoji275]

I was sleeved 3/19 and it was horrible for me because. I was extremely nauseous. I couldn’t stop vomiting I had so many regrets. But come to find out it was the narcotics that use for pain. As soon as they took me off I was fine. No pain and NO nausea. Going home today yay. And my husband stayed with me which help a lot. So now only positive vibes from this point on.

I'm getting approximately 40 grams of Protein in per day. I'm trying to work my way up to 60 by next week but it's not easy. Glad to hear your hiccups are better. The swollen in my belly had gone down yesterday finally but I noticed it started to swell as the day goes by...

I’m 5 days post-op. I’m having a down day. I haven’t had a BM in over a week and emotionally I’m struggling today. I had the sleeve and hernia repair. I have 6 incisions and my right side is still in pain. I haven’t taken any pain meds since I came home Sunday. Stomach is still swollen. Today is tearful for me. I’m all over the place.

Be tender with your tummy. It's been through a lot. While you were slumbering with your peaceful medicated nap, masked people were jabbing him, poking holes in him., running instraments around and through him. Every time he could relax and have his peristalsis, they manipulated something. Poor thing-- he feels swollen, confused and cranky. Be patient, once the swelling goes down, he will feel like it's safe to relax, he'll serve you and serve you well the rest of your days. And you're going to feel so fine you'll take him for another walk.[emoji173]

Are you keeping up with your 64 oz of Fluid? Might have to call out the big guns m.om colace, Miramax or Smooth Move tea. Remember the Bible verse "this too shall pass" until then You are running on "full" down there instead of "empty"![emoji68] And,remember we[emoji177]you and you will soon start shining like the bright star you are![emoji293]

@SleeveinIL I'm sorry you are have a down day but I can promise you each day that goes by your body starts to feel better. My stomach was swollen for 8 days I'm still a little sore but no where near I was last week. My first BM came once I drunk a Protein Shake.

Be sure to walk frequently, it helps with the soreness and gas. Happy healing!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
