7 Days Out...and I'm surprised...

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I've been stalking these forums for awhile but I really need some insight on my situation.

I had RNY gastric bypass 1 week ago and everything is not as I expected...

I had/have very little pain, surgeon said everything went perfect.

I can drink almost normally, literally chug Water almost with just the slightest pressure...

Everything I've eaten has gone down perfectly...not even a hint of trouble...

I have very little gas and I pooped easily/normally like on day 4.

And I feel like my hunger is still present but I do get full faster, but I thought I'd barely be able to take 3 bites and that isn't the case at all.

Soooooo I'm concerned. Shouldn't I be feeling more different?? I am losing weight which is good but I guess I thought Id wake up to a much more drastic healing process? I'm worried the surgeon didn't make the pouch small enough?? I read so many horror stories in preparation for this and now I'm just confused...

Any one with a similar experience??

I know only from reading on here, no personal knowledge yet. Most responder say liquids are easy, slip, right on through but when you get to purees and softs you'll truly feel the restriction and tightness of your newly redesigned innards. Keep on slow and steady with the liquids and the pureed etc will come. When that happens, let us know how you're getting along. You'll be a veteran to all the newbies and pre surgs. Cool --isn't it?

I'm almost 2 months out and not alot of restriction either. The only time I know when I've eaten too much is after I've eaten too much and the pains come. So you learn how much you can eat and then stop prior to becoming too full. I honestly felt the same way you feel, i thought after surgery I wouldn't be able to eat and initially for about a week I couldn't however seems like I can eat more and more as time goes on.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
