Pre and Post Workout Supplements

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I’m going to have surgery in a few days (yay!) and I’m realizing now that the pre-workout and aminos I use require a lot of liquid to be consumed, since it’s a powder you mix into 16 oz of Water. Has anyone altered the supplements they use post-surgery or do you just consume them slower?

Congrats! My pre-workout calls for 4-6 oz of Water and I drink my 24oz bcaa while I workout. I've taken No Xplode, C4 Ultimate and C4 Original and all call for a small amount of water to mix.

I start fueling and hydrating an hour before I work out. It gives me enough time to consume. I dont like to workout on a full stomach.

Right after surgery, I lost my ability to swallow large pills and I had to crush them. The horse-size Calcium tablets were the worse. It was like eating chalk. The only way I could down these was by mixing them with crystal light and drinking them down. Because they formed a paste at the bottom of the glass. I had to remix these and chug them down several times. Luckily my inability to swallow lasted only a couple months and then I was back to normal.

I’ve used C4 before and liked it. That’s kind of what I was thinking - just mixing the pre-workout with less water and drinking the bcaa slowly while working out (which is what I currently do anyway). I just wanted to see if this was the general thought in the post-op community. Thanks!!!!

Yeah, I knew about having to crush daily Vitamins. In this post, I was mostly curious about the pre- and post-workout supplements. Thanks, though!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
