Hi fellow Hoosiers. I just got my date after much research and then finally getting approved by Anthem. I chose Dr. Shina and the surgery is going to be at Nortons. I would have loved to have it done at Clark, but this particular surgeon only uses Nortons. Anyway...I have until June 12th to start sweating bullets and getting nervous. Has anyone else used Dr Shina?

Dr. Shina is a very competent surgeon. I'm sure you're in good hands. Congrats! Dr. Allen is my doc.

well...I ended up going with Dr. Shina...I can't remember now since it was a while back when I posted on here, but I think he was the one who was a provider with my insurance. Anyway, he does the surgery at Norton's Suburban. Does anyone know anything about that hospital? I hope they are nice!

My son was born at Suburban. It was a pretty nice hospital then so I have no doubt they're still that way. They almost have to be since the competition is so fierce these days.

That's good to know. There really is a huge difference from one hospital to the next. Some I wouldn't take my dog to.

I am just going through the motions right now. My surgery date is still a couple of months away...gives me plenty of time to ponder the why am I doing this part. Of course it's easy to answer that one. I just go look in the mirror! I have all my testing dates marked on the calendar, with the first one being May 4th. Then the rest are May 14th. That date also includes one more meeting to attend for any questions and I am required to bring along hubby so he can ask whatever is on his mind too. Then two day before surgery I go on a liquid diet. After surgery I need to have shots to keep from getting blood clots. I haven't heard anyone speak of this...but it's in my instructions. Hu8bby will need to give me a shot daily for a few days.

Re: group meetings...

If any one wants to have a group meeting let me know I really need some support. It's hard doing it all by your self I know.

I am in New Albany. I was banded 12/23/09. I would love to find someone local to talk to. I go to the support group meeting at Floyd once a month but it is more like training. I want to find someone or people that can verify that I feel right and that I am doing this right.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
