Massive hair loss and stall

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am almost 5 months post op vsg. I have lost at least 50% of my hair. I have always had extremely thick hair, now I am scared to wash it or even brush it because so much comes out. I have bought all of the matrix violate advanced Fiber strong products and they do not seem to be helping. Has anyone else experienced this?

I am also going through a stall. I am extremely frustrated. I am thankful that I have lost a little over 75 lbs in almost 5 months however I feel like everyone else is out of their old clothes and into new by this point. I am not. Yes they are big but I can still wear them comfortably. For the past at least three weeks I have been going up and down between 3 lbs. it is definitely not coming off like it was. Has anyone else experienced this?

I haven't LOST hair (I don't think so, anyway), but it does appear it's growing slower than before. I've noticed that less is coming off when I trim my beard each week, and the last time I got my hair cut, I was asked if it had only been 2-3 weeks since my last one (it had been about 6 weeks). Has anyone had this issue?

Sorry to hear about your challenges. it sounds like you've had fantastic weight loss to be at 75 lbs down at 5 months! What was your starting weight? I think if you try on some smaller clothes you may find they fit well and that you might like them after a little bit of wearing them. When you're bigger you get used to loose stuff and avoid anything that is slightly tight, but once you lose some you might not mind it anymore. I'm down a bit over 60 (50 since surgery) and I still wear a few items from before, but noticed that I feel so much better in the next size down after I tried it. I actually went as far as to clean out all my bigger clothes except for a couple things so I have no choice now.

The Hair loss sucks, but it will come back. Unfortunately there's nothing proven to really help, you just have to ride it out. I've got thick dark hair and am expecting it to be bad too... so I bought some hats.

For your stall are you being super careful to monitor what you eat and tracking everything? Are you eating anything that has much more salt? I've also caught my scale reading wrong - so if you have an electronic scale change the batteries, this morning my scale was reading 4 lbs high and after a batter change it's normal again.

Hang in there, you're doing great and you can do this!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
