Is this not working for me

Recommended Posts

No scolding, only a reminder. You can NOT get to where you want to go by using the old patterns and playbook that made you morbidly obese in the first place. It's highly illogical. :-/ My guess is that perhaps there have been more of these "slips" than you report here and if so, then you have the reason why, "my tool just isn't working for me."

I'm sorry to be harsh-ish. But dammit! This is your golden shot. How long it takes you, is how LONG it takes. Trust your surgical team. And work the plan. I can assure you of one thing. You weight loss phase will be excruciatingly boring (or at least it could be since there should not be chips or Cookies involved). They didn't operate on your head--only your tummy. It's up to you to fully comply and only you know whether you are truly doing that or not.

You work out. Good for you. But you do NOT "deserve" that bag of chips or cookie. You DESERVE to have control over your choices and to work your plan and to reach you hard won goal. I'm saying prayers for you. You've lost about 10.33lbs per month which is fairly average for your weight bracket. You're neither fast, nor slow. I will be thrilled to see a 10lb/month loss.

I had my sleeve on Nov 7th and down 50lbs but 21lbs of that loss was with pre op diet. Every lb is a loss and don’t be discouraged. I’m happy with my weight loss so far as haven’t been able to do gym work and only started walking 2 weeks ago. Everybody is different. Don’t beat yourself up having the occasional treat as I have had but just be extra vigilant the next day. Just limit them as these treats got us into trouble in the first place! Don’t be disheartened I am around the same weight as you and am upping the ante now to continue on this journey! Keep up the good work! You CAN and you Will do it!!

Hey don’t get discouraged!!! I felt the same way at first when my surgery mates were way ahead. I had to stop and think about. How hard was it to loose weight preop? Some of these success stories your looking at are amazing but not typical. You need to remember your BMI wasn’t as high as some others that had the surgery. Everyone progresses differently. Everyone has stalls as well while you may not be losing a number on the scale you are losing inches. Are you taking progress pictures and measurements? How are your clothes fitting? I had my DS on 12-8-17 and am down 39 lbs (the DS should have faster weight loss) I notice that the days I’m stalling are the days I didn’t get my Water or food in. Do you track your food? I use the free app called Looseit and it tells me how much protein/fat/ carbs. The more I eat I loose the day after.

I also started to watch DR V on YouTube. He is a WLS Dr out of New Mexico. He records his seminars for patients after surgery. It may help you look at life after the Sleeve differently and give you the push you need to keep going.

Here is one small clip so you can find him on YouTube.

Naieshait, you're gonna be ok, and you are losing weight. Keep clicking along and trust your program.

The exercise you're doing is awesome, keep it up.

So you had a damned cookie and chips. Everyone's going to experiment with junk again at some point. (Or close to everyone?) LOL. I sure have.

For me, I kinda do test out riding that dragon a little....just to prove to myself that I can. Just to say...hey, I can have a bite of this and step away. I've got that control. It's important to me to do that. Some people think it's dangerous to do this and they avoid temptation completely. It's individual. I need to prove I can do it to feel in control. If I can't have a bite and walk away...food has won. Isn't that weird? For some people...if you take a bite...food has won. We're all different.

But the key thing is....stepping away and not getting sucked into old habits. It can happen when we're feeling discouraged....so you really need to watch out for that!

But you can do this. You're actually doing really, really well so far! Just gotta be patient. People who generally lose a little slower...lose a little longer...and at the end of 18 months, everyone loses about the same percentage of their excess body weight....if they stay on track and don't hit that slippery slope of bad habits.

Most of us are going to have bad days, I mean most of us are here bc we have issues with consuming too much food for the wrong reasons. I've eaten the chips and the Cookies and a lot of other things I probably shouldn't have in the last 6 months, but I try to get back on the horse the next day. In the past I would let a food "failure" derail my whole program, now i try to forgive myself and do better next meal, next day etc.. In the end I eat very well 90 plus percent of the time, the weight is coming off. This is a learning process, keep striving to do better. You got this :).

Shame will not help you resolve the issue. You have to recognize the feeling right before you pick the food -are you avoiding a decision, are you stressed, angry, tired? - this is one that is harder to admit on first examination. We tend to put ourselves last on the list and then wonder why we resort to stuffing the resentment and exhaustion down our throats hurting ourselves even more.

Forgive yourself - you are human and always always a work in progress. Keep your fuel up in your body, so you will be less likely to just grab that comfort trigger. Take walking break, or 5 minutes with your eyes closed deep breathing, then get a Protein and a good carb snack - just an ounce of something. Write down the issue and then write a real solution.

Right now, I have been really angry at my adult son, and I cannot control his actions, so it is one of those frustratingly futile situations. All I can do is control me and do my best, and run my arss off on the treadmill, or go smash something, chop wood, etc. (Because I cannot make the outcome the way it should be.) I would rather go eat a box of girl scout Cookies - but that wouldn't fix it and make me feel like poop, instead of make him feel like poop....lol

Hey, thanks for the response. Yes I take pictures and see big differences looking from that aspect. My family and friends seem to see more than I. Idk I just don’t see the progression others see. I loook bk and found this picture and I see a big difference. Some days I just don’t. Most days are better for me. What exactly is wrong?

Yeah, that's all I see in the body of the OP's message, so not sure what's going on there.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the responses. I guess I’m just a little down and feeling stressed today. I’m use to food being my comfort. Now that has changed it’s taken some getting use to. One of my biggest fears is this TOOL failing because my lack of will power. I know we all screw up. I I honestly do eat right 90% of The time. I just had a off day or 2 with the Snacks and it has me down. Im going to try to push harder and trust the process. Thanks again guys [emoji8]

We will have bad moments, it may be a 1 min, hour, day, or week, it’s ok, your body is going through big changes. Just keep going, it already looks like you have been doing a great job.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
