Yogurt and Pudding Considered a Liquid?

Recommended Posts

I'm having surgery Wednesday and I keep reading my dietitian's guide and others over and over again. I feel like this can become a hot mess, especially when you throw in Vitamins and supplements. My sheet says I can have full liquids day 2 onward and an example is light yogurt (without fruit) and sugar free pudding. Aren't these more of a pureed item? Not that I'm complaining! LOL But did anyone do this and have any trouble?

My group did full liquid in two phases. Phase one was just Protein Drinks and Clear Liquids. We did this until we hit seven days. Then, at one week out, we added the yogurt, pudding and cream Soups.

As far as I can tell....bariatric surgeons have very little consistency on this stuff. Lots of different ideas out there.

My personal advice? Do what you feel up to that you have permission to do. Take it slow. If you have nausea, slow up, drink clear fluids and Protein Drink for a while longer and give it time.

Yes! It can get so confusing! That is great advice. I will get some and keep them in the fridge and see how I can handle them as I go along this week. And CONGRATS on the weight loss! Holy moly that is incredible!! :D

My plan was the same as Creekimp's. I did fine with "full liquids" including yogurt, cream Soup and sugar free pudding.

Good advice.

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery, wishing you the best.

My plan includes pudding and yogurt in the liquids stage (first 2 weeks). I tolerated them without any issue.

Mine too. I just had cream of chicken Soup with Protein Powder mixed in for the first time last night. I have been having yogurt for the past couple of days. It sure helps with monotony. But I don't think I'm gonna have pudding because I don't need the extra cals/carbs that it represents. But boy howdie am I counting the days down to next Wednesday where I hope to graduate to purees!! :D

For me, pudding was a puree, but@fluffychix had a great idea to thin down regular yogurt with Protein drink

Isn't it delish? :D I am lovin' the Walden Farms pancake syrups in Blueberry and Strawberry!! No seeds to contend with and no sugars!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
