gkhtoys 19 Posted February 26, 2018 Today is my 1st day of liquid only diet for my upcoming gastric sleeve surgery on March 12th, 2018. I'm having 2 questions...how can I maintain a full feeling after I drink a Protein Shake with milk? #2 is it usual to have several bm's when you first start? Thanks for any help! FloridaGal1976 77 Posted February 26, 2018 I can't answer your first question because I purchased the premade shakes, and they've done a pretty good job of staying off real hunger, if I drink Water non-stop. As for your second question, I've actually been constipated quite a bit since starting my liquid diet, even with chewable Fiber and stool softeners. It's still so hard to go. Mychalene 0 Posted February 27, 2018 I started my liquid diet yesterday also. Surgery 3/6. I don't feel full at all. I drink Water, but might need to up it a little more. I would suggest more water in between shakes. No changes so far in bm's.
jcrowder 5 Posted February 27, 2018 I did a shake diet previously for about a year. I haven't started my pre-op one yet, but am doing one shake a day working with a bariatrician while awaiting approval. I always made my shakes with a shake blender with ice + the Water or it sounds like in your case the milk it called for. It increases the liquid volume (helps get in more water), usually leaves a little ice to chew on in the cup, and takes longer to drink. Someone in another post talked about "head hunger" versus actual hunger. That was the hardest to overcome in the first couple days. If you are done with your shakes or in between try blending up just ice and water to like a smoothie consistency and add lemon juice, sugar free/ calorie free drink mix or other sugar free type sweeteners to jazz it up a bit (if allowed). Go to bed early. Divert attention. The first few days are the worst for sure. I have trouble with lactose, so the whey based shakes are particularly hard on my stomach. Drink shake and not long after I am heading to the bathroom. If I recall from before, even folks who didn't have lactose issues went through a transition with their BMs when starting the all shake diet though. Best of luck!! AtlantaRed 651 Posted February 28, 2018 When I first had the sleeve and did 2 week liquid diet, I used the Premier Protein shakes, Water, Jello. I don't think you're necessarily going to be getting full. You're just kind of surviving and doing what you need to do to get to you're surgery.
kakatlady612 1,053 Posted March 1, 2018 How are you doing with your presurgery liquid diet? I hope I don't need to do,one, but I would :try to not complain if I did.Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app
gkhtoys 19 Posted March 1, 2018 Thanks kakatlady612! I'm doing much better now that I changed to Almond Milk instead of 2% Milk! Now I have to call my surgeon's office because I can't keep my glucose levels past 90! I've also gained a pound since last week! If I don't lose weight the next 12 days I won't be able to have my surgery...
