ElseeG 67 Posted February 26, 2018 Did you have trouble finding a local surgeon if you went out of town for your surgery?
abefroman329 704 Posted February 26, 2018 Frankly, that’s why I wouldn’t recommend going out of town for the surgery, at least, so far that you can’t also travel for post-op care from the same surgeon. When I realized I needed to have surgery to repair an anal fissure, I was on the verge of moving from DC to Chicago, and my surgeon in DC recommended moving and having it done in Chicago for continuity of care purposes. And that surgery was much less complicated than weight loss surgery.
sleeve21418 42 Posted February 26, 2018 I had my surgery done 4 1/2 hours away because it saved me about $14,000 to do it in a different city. It wasn’t a problem at all and my surgery was outpatient. My doc had me spend the night the night before and after surgery in a hotel and then I stayed with a friend an hour away from hospital for the next 3 nights to stay close in case of any problems. I wasn’t taking my pain meds except at night so was able to drive myself home the Sunday after my surgery on 2/14/18. I go back for my 3 month6 month, and yearly. Which I don’t mind at all to save that much cash. My surgeon is just a phone call away and if there was a problem he could advise me how to handle it immediately with my general practitioner
GassyGurl 428 Posted February 26, 2018 I traveled about 11 hours for surgery, to save $10,000. Had my first post op in person, but our 3, 6, 9 and 12 month classes are group classes that I do online via Facebook live. I get my blood work drawn at my pcp's office, and send the results to the bariatric office for feedback. My PCP is happy to help and pretty much follows the advice given by my bariatric practice.
