melsabells 64 Posted February 26, 2018 I was originally scheduled for surgery December 22nd of last year. It was denied at the last minute. I have a rescheduled tentative date for March 14th 2018. I am more hopeful. The plan is for the VSG. I should find out this week for sure if it'll happen then. The reason I was denied? My a1c was deemed to good(6.1%) and my other numbers were not bad enough. Despite the fact that I weigh 330 -/+ at any given time AND i've been that weight for a few years. I have tried in vain to lose weight. Well thanks to a few reasons(medication change and holiday eating) my a1c jumped to 7.2%. My blood pressure measures fairly high when I visit the surgeon. He, along with my other medical folks, were shocked I was denied. I think of it this way...I got the short straw that day. I was very upset but I do believe things happen, or not, for a reason. My surgeon really has fought for me to get approval, he and his staff have been really great. I just wanted to say hello again!

abefroman329 704 Posted February 26, 2018 That’s just weird! The surgeon wants your A1C be,ow 7 so they know your diabetes is controlled and you won’t have complications from the surgery with healing. That was a requirement from my surgeon. Luckily mine has been below 7 for about 4 years. The good news is, I had my A1C checked as part of my annual physical and it fell from 6.2 to 5.2. My primary was “thrilled” (his words) and took me off the Janumet. No more diabetes meds at all! So you have that to look forward to. 1 melsabells reacted to this
melsabells 64 Posted February 26, 2018 Wow, that's awesome! Congrats! My a1c is usually around 6.1-6.3 I was so bummed about it going up but it lit a fire for me.
