Hi all!

I just signed up for this website and am having my surgery on November 14th. I'm a little nervous, but mostly excited. I have a ton of questions- but of course I can't think of them all right now. How long did most of you do the pre-op liquid diet and what exactly did you all eat? I was told by my doctor to do the diet for three days, but I will do it for longer if it will help make the surgery easier or less painful afterwards. Please give me your advice- anything will help. Thanks!

Jen

Congratulations on getting your surgery date!!! I was banded on 9/25/2007. I did Clear Liquids for three days (I had a hiatal hernia that was repaired at the same time) becasue it was all I could do. After that I did full liquids for about 7days, and then soft foods. Most Doctors have their own recomendations for what you should do. Congratulations again and Good Luck on the 14th! So far I am SOOO happy I did this!

Hey, it's Georgia Girl. I just got finished reading your reply on my thread. Congrats on the surgery coming up. I didn't do a liquid diet, my doctor put me on the Sugar Busters Diet for 2 weeks. I don't think I would have made it on a liquid diet. LOL. But for only 3 days, that not so bad. Good luck.

Thank you all so much for the responses. I'm really wondering if I should do the pre-op diet for longer than three days. And what exactly did you all eat before and after? What brands and where did you buy it? How long were you on clear liquids and then soft foods after your surgery. Thanks again for the support!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
