Comfy pjs (with a low waistband or a really high waistband) that won’t be too tight on your incisions. I brought my robe to the hospital for modesty when walking the halls post op. Stock up on lots of Powerade zero, bottled Water, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello. That’s about all I ate for 3 days. After that I sent my husband to get me miso Soup from a Japanese restaurant and strained out the tofu/onions/etc. I bought and packed all kinds of other stuff that I never ended up using once. Those were literally the only things I used for like 4 days. Haha

I'd stock up on broths, herbs to go in them for flavoring, Protein Shakes ( these can get pricey) Crystal Light in a lot of flavors! I couldn't stomach anything chocolate, so my chocolate protien shakes were useless. I decided to pep up my vanilla ones with PB powder, to make an amazing PB shake! Also, some rum extract and cinnamon for an egg nog shake! I've gotten creative because of food boredom!!

So I bought a ton of stuff, sf Jello, sf pudding, sf popsicle, multiple Protein powders, bunch of different flavor and brands Protein Shakes. I'm about through with the full liquid phase, and used so little of it. I really only liked the chocolate Premier Protein shakes, two of those and I meet my protein for the day. And then because I crave salty/savory, some smooth Soups. I like the Pacific/TJ's Tomato & Red Pepper and several of Campbells Soup to Go's. I spent so much money on stuff I either didn't like or never sounded appealing.

Oh, and Benefiber, REALLY important!

Lot of similar threads with good ideas to look through. For the hospital I'd recommend earplugs and an eye mask in addition to comfortable pants / pj bottoms / shorts. For shopping I would think about what you're going to do for liquids and Protein for the week or two afterwards and have that in the house so you don't have to go out. If your DR is kind enough to give you your prescriptions before surgery get them filled so you have pain meds etc already in the house. I found pre-measured bottles for drinking helpful and some kind of low / no sugar electrolyte beverage daily is a must.

Good luck

There are a lot of good replies here. Obviously, you need some comfy loungewear and some supportive slippers (my sister bought me Tempur-Pedic slippers and they were a Godsend)... however, the NUMBER ONE thing I loved the most during my recovery, and the one thing I used the longest, was a compression pillow. I kept that little sucker tucked into my pants for at least a week and a half post-op. It helps you get up and out of bed (you brace against it to help your tummy) and it just makes everything so much more comfortable. Seriously -- get one! Mine was less than $15.

Where did you get this pillow, what was it called, etc? Links etc, anything to help members locate this pillow would be greatly appreciated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
