Jfranks0124 1 Posted February 25, 2018 Can someone please tell me how you get your daily Protein in everyday. My dr told me I needed 60 g each day. I'm close to my first week post op gastric sleeve. I have tried some Protein Shakes but not a great fan. Anybody's input will be much appreciated. 1 GreenTealael reacted to this
sillykitty 10,776 Posted February 25, 2018 Mostly through Protein Drinks. At this stage there is really no other way to get to 60 g
Losebig 508 Posted February 25, 2018 Early on shakes or Protein Powder are really the only ways. I watered my shakes down, which helped cut the sweetness and made them easier to drink. Once you can have puréed food it gets way easier
brookelynzoo 13 Posted February 25, 2018 I add a scoop of unflavored Protein powder to my Protein Shakes, purée and Soup. Unjury or isolate
GreenTealael 25,439 Posted February 25, 2018 Some people need to work their way up to that goal. It will take time, dont force it. Little by little increase your intake
James Marusek 5,244 Posted February 25, 2018 During the first few weeks after surgery many people find it difficult to meet their daily Protein requirement. That is because your body is in a major heal mode. Just keep working towards that goal and you should be able to get there. Many experience problems drinking Protein Shakes. I hated them. But in the beginning I drank them, three 16-ounce protein shakes a day, in order to meet my protein requirements. You do not have to like protein shakes only tolerate them. There are many varieties of protein shakes available today. Experiment until you can find one you can tolerate. There are many different types of formulations on protein shakes. I used Muscle Milk Light (Vanilla Creme) powder blended with Water and a half a banana. That worked for me. But on the opposite end of the spectrum, you might try premixed Isopure. If you tried all the various varieties and still are unsuccessfully, then there is the fallback of fortified milk. 32 ounces of 1% milk fortified by adding 1 cup of dried milk provides 56 grams of protein. It also takes a dent out of meeting the Fluid requirements. Mix up a pitcher and drink a little throughout the day. Without sufficient protein, your body will scavenge protein from other areas of your body, such as your muscles. Protein is extremely important after surgery as its job in the body is to build and maintain tissues including your body's major organs and skeletal muscles. Protein deficiency, when continued over a long period of time can cause a disease known as protein caloric malnutrition. Common symptoms are poor healing, fatigue, Hair loss and muscle wasting. Immediate post op, protein promotes healing of the staple line and incisions. 1 MzNatalia reacted to this
FluffyChix 17,415 Posted February 25, 2018 (edited) I'm so lucky! Honestly it hasn't been an issue. I mix some of the Premier Protein with decaff coffee or drink it straight. I also like the PP Clear cut 1/2 and 1/2 with Water and love Syntrax Lemon Iced Tea. So far I've reached my Protein and fluid goals each day that I've been on full liquids post surgery (first 2 days were Clear Liquids only). I love iced decaff coffee with them too. I also mix plain unflavored with broth and or cream of mushroom/cochicken Soups. Delish! Here's today's food log: Edited February 25, 2018 by FluffyChix
