February 2018 Success Stories

Recommended Posts

Hello! I was sleeved on 2/27 and am doing really well, just still get tired really easily! I went back to work this past Monday. I’m on soft foods and my diet consists mostly of eggs and tuna salad right now. I’ve lost about 25 pounds since I started on the pre-op liquid diet. It’s coming off pretty slow but I’m trying to be patient. The weight didn’t come on overnight and it won’t come off overnight either. My biggest struggle is drinking enough Water. Having a really hard time with that! I am able to stomach the Premier Protein shakes again now, so that is really helping me get my Protein. Nice to meet all of you!! :)

Hi All,
Hoping to join up with you as I'm a February sleever. [emoji4]

Has definitely been a roller coaster ride and I know there's more coming my way, but I stand by my decision to do this and have an opportunity to truly LIVE my life from here on out. Today was my first day back to work (took 4 weeks off) and it went well, but my tummy is sore from sitting upright fully clothed for eight hours. It's probably not appropriate to wear pajamas to work is it?

I had the same thing happen when I went back to work this week. “Real clothes” made my stomach really sore! I went to Walmart and bought some really soft black slip on pants that look nice but feel like pajamas. They were a lifesaver!

Sleeved 2/10 and wanted to echo what everyone else has been saying. Some days are better than others. I’m really struggling to get enough Water and REALLY struggling to get in enough Protein. I force myself to drink one Protein Shake a day but even then some days I’m only getting to 30g. I’m on soft foods but I just don’t feel hungry and feel sick if I eat too much. Blah!

I started going to the gym and that feels really good! What’s making you feel good?

Greetings Everyone
I was sleeved 2/26/18 and just had my 2 wk post-op today (Dr had to reschedule)
Graduated to soft foods and tried some cream of chicken Soup with a small potato blended in my NutriBullet
Felt awful all afternoon/evening
I’m choosing to stay on my puréed foods a bit longer.
The way I make sure to get in more fluids is by rotating 2oz Protein supplement and 2oz Water with each dose of meds
I’m at 45g of protein & 48oz fluids daily
Set my Apple Watch to alert me to walk every hour I’m awake
Dr told me I’m right on target since I also had a hiatal hernia repair with sleeve

Sleeved 2/14 started at 287, day of surgery 277, currently 247. I keep a journal, weigh my food, eat with a baby spoon, time my meals, drink my fluids. Get on elliptical 30 min a day 3-4 times a week, just started doing very light weights. I try to always remember I got to where I was doing what “I wanted to do” and to get where I want to be I need to do what the doc/nut tell me to do.

I'm 5 weeks post op, and down 27 lbs! Yay!

It has been more of a roller coaster than I anticipated. First week was easy, then I had terribly low energy, weak and shaky for two weeks. That coincided with a weight loss stall. Then last week I started losing again but had a lot of nausea of and stomach pain. Hopefully going forward I'll have the best of both worlds, feeling good and rapid weight loss!

I’m doing GREAT! Sleeved 2/6/18 and as of tonight I am down 48lbs!!

Right now I am able to eat between 1/4 and 1/2 cup of food per meal, three times a day. I do one Protein Shake as a snack and between meals sip sip sip that Water. I make it to the YMCA three days a week and am back up to 20 laps in the pool. Next week I’m meeting with a personal trainer to talk about adding in some strength training.

The pictures are from October and a week ago.

How are you doing?? IMG_9730.JPG

I'm glad to hear that most are doing well.

I'm almost 7 weeks out, and down 30 lbs. I'm a little disappointed in that, tbh! And to add to the frustration I seemed to have entered my second stall, ugh! Also, I don't look any different, and my clothes fit the same, double ugh!

Overall I feel really good. My main issue is I get nausea when I have an empty stomach, and drinking Water makes it worse. Since I don;t want to eat all the time, this is frustrating. And I'm not good with water to begin with, so this isn't helping. I've also not been getting my Protein in. I became intolerant of whey protein, so I had to experiment with alternatives. I think I found some that work, fingers crossed!

In good news, my energy is great. I was really easily exhausted for a while, but I think a B12 shot solved that. I'm back to my normal work/travel schedule without any problems. I'm getting better at navigating business meals and dining out.

Oh, and the best part, I'm literally never physically hungry! I have cravings if I'm smelling food, or looking at a menu, etc., but the lack of hunger makes it easier to make good choices. Even if I do give into cravings at eat something less than ideal, my stomach capacity is only 1 oz of solid food. So it's not like I can have a huge set back!

And it seems that I have an Iron stomach so far (except whey protein!). I've eaten every type of protein it seems without issue, no issues with vegetables either. I've only had limited starches, but no issue so far. I haven't really had much sugar or sweets at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
