5 months post op. Not losing weight

Recommended Posts

I had gastric sleeve 9.12.17. Since then Ive only lost 38lbs. Since 12.23 Ive only lost 6 lbs. I exercise 5 days a week, I measure, weigh, log all my food. Im so depressed and I want to cry all the time. I know I feel better and I am able to walk and not have issues. I followed up with dr and nutritionist and they just say follow the program. It will work. Then I was told Im getting too many calories from Protein and to cut a snack. I should only be a 800 calories a day

I workout. They encourage it. 800 calories is nothing and Im burning on average 600 a day.

I just feel like this was the biggest mistake and I will never lose weight. Any suggestions?

Has anyonr else gone through this?

Give yourself credit...You are losing weight 38 and still going.

Just so I understand correctly. You are login and getting in 800 calories per day. Drs are telling you too many of your calories are from Protein. Are you hitting your protein goals or are they higher than 60/100 grams?

If you are only eating around 1,000 calories a day but burning 600, that is probably the issue. I would say reduce your workout and perhaps focus on weight lifting? We are told to focus on strengthening for the first 6 months, and to only do light cardio if we choose to.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
