Sounds promising. Let us know how it tastes. I tried chili powdered crickets before and it was... interesting!

Supposedly, you make a smoothy with almond milk, frozen banana, and chocolate Peanut Butter cricket powder.

I'll give ya'll the report after I try it:)

I did! It wasn't bad at all, but it was a little gritty. I made the chocolate banana shake, and it was delicious. There was a nutty mild flavor to the crickets that surprised me. I expected them to taste nasty bitter and strong.

I could easily eat cricket powder in lots of things I make. Gonna try it in black bean brownies.

So yeah, it's really high in Protein and if you read, most of the cricket protein has a higher Iron count per g than red meat. When I was a normie, this alarmed me. Cuz as a non-menstruating female, as with males we have a "closed" system for iron loss. Unless we're secretely bleeding internally somewhere or we're donating blood on a regular schedule.

But you know, as a post op RNY-keteer, I know we may potentially have problems with low iron. So getting used to using cricket protein, which is really highly bioavailable to us, it might not be such a bad idea! You know?

To the point that my doctor was concerned and thought I might have developed hemochromatosis. Turns out I just needed to cut back on my kale, spinach and other high iron foods. I was evidently over compensating.

@BigViffer You know, this is pretty encouraging to hear. I'm glad you don't have hemochromatosis! But I just never thought that all of the dark greens we eat and legumes, etc can have that much affect on our iron status. It encourages me, cuz I too eat a wad of dark greens each day and hope to be able to tolerate legumes again without bg probs. My pre-surg hematocrit is always on the high end for a female (post meno included). And I really haven't been eating a bunch of red meat. So maybe keeping my iron levels up post surg won't be as hard as anticipated. I'd already made plans to have liverwurst, and make liver and onions and chicken liver pate to try to keep iron sources up from foods. And I'm going to continue the dark leafy greens, especially as part of Breakfast and lunch! Yeehaw! Thanks for sharing, dude!

ROFLMAO! We grew up with a mom who loved liverwurst and potted meat and liver and onions, and chicken livers and onions, or fried chicken livers and gizzards, vienna sausages, deviled ham, spam, and ALL the crap. Like ALL the crap in the South! Bahahahaha! Consequently it's my big sissy's and my secret pleasure to have a slice of liverwurst and Hellmann's mayo on a saltine cracker. We usually have it during the summer when it's hot! Brunsweiger is what it is called here in Texas? Dunno if it's everywhere. But it is an acquired taste! Hahahaha! I don't rightly know if it's the liverwurst and livers helped her Iron. When she was very young she was anemic, so had to eat liver a lot?

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
