Vitamin Suggestions

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for Vitamins in pill form. What do you all take? I currently am taking Bariatric Advantage Chews for my Multi, and Calcium. but i cant barely stomach those anymore. Its easier for me to just take pills.

I had RNY gastric bypass and the number and quantity of Vitamins that I take is several times that of sleeve patients. So I generally take inexpensive vitamins that I buy in bulk as Sam's Club. I take Citracal for my Calcium requirements. I take Centrum for my Multivitamins. I take Sam's club brand sublingual Vitamin B12.

I take Centrum complete Multi Vitamins and Bariatric Advantage Calcium melts. Make sure calcium is seperated at least 2 hours from your multi Vitamin, Iron interferes with its absorption. Unfortunately this means you have to take them on a schedule (I have to do 2 multi’s a day and 3 sets of 2 calcium pills).

I’m not sure if chewables have better absorption or not.

I've been using vitamin patches from bariatricpal that work well. I get insanely nauseas from the smell of the chewable vitamins now so I have these a try.

Keep a close eye on your Vitamin levels as despite all the positive reviews on the sellers sites, independent examination of the product showed that they don't work because they can't absorb through the skin properly (unlike at nicotine patches) and that the weight of the Patches is less than the weight of Vitamins they say they provide.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
