Jessibird 32 Posted February 23, 2018 Anyone ever have a perforated ulcer and have to have emergency surgery? I did this week. Crazy experience and I have been in the hospital all week. I didn't even know I had an ulcer. Very painful!Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app
Creekimp13 5,840 Posted February 23, 2018 Yikes. No fun. Do you have helicobacter pylori?
Jessibird 32 Posted February 23, 2018 I have no idea. All I know is it ruptured and allowed gas to leak into my system and I am lucky I didn't get sepsis. Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app
Creekimp13 5,840 Posted February 23, 2018 (edited) You are, indeed. That's very scary! So glad you're ok. Ulcers are typically caused by that particular bacteria, though they can caused by a few other things after surgery, too. Does the doctor have any theory what caused it? Do you drink a lot of caffeine, smoke, use ibuprofen or aspirin, drink heavily, etc? Trying to dodge a bullet from your experience.... kakatlady612 1,053 Posted February 23, 2018 I'm trying to baby my ulcer along. No h.p.bacteria so mine must be from excessive NSAID usage. Surely don't want Hector to perferorate on me.Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

Beth Ann 5 Posted February 24, 2018 I had my bypass on December 11- kept fluids down fine- but once I started soft foods I almost always vomited my food. Endoscopy revealed an ulcer. I’ve been on carafate and omeprazole 2x a day. I can keep saying me food down- but still vomit every 1-2 days. How did you know your ulcer perforated??? Pain?? My blood work has alarm been so off- my pcp is very worried. 1 Creekimp13 reacted to this

Trying to dodge a bullet from your experience....My bypass was in Dec 2016 and I didn't drink any coffee for months but we got a cool coffee pot for Christmas and I've had a cup (or 2) a day since then and I have drank too much tea so I am pretty sure that is what caused the rupture. kakatlady612 1,053 Posted February 24, 2018 I take Dexilant from my gastroenterologist, hasn't given me any carafate although I have taken it in the past. I took it then in pill form, never had liquid.Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app
