I’m having my surgery at Memorial in May. I wanted to know if you can tell me if they provide private recovery rooms after surgery? I’ve heard some hospitals have you sharing rooms with other Bariatric patients.

Hey BeckyVSG2b! I did have a private room after surgery. Which doctor is doing your surgery? I have a REALLY great experience with Dr. Abbas at Memorial, all of the nurses after the surgery were GREAT too! I am sure you will do very well! Good luck and let me know if you have any questions at all!

How was your surgery and recovery ? How do you feel now ? I'm still on the fence trying to decide .

Jamieohh,

It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I wish I would have done it earlier! My surgery and recovery went GREAT! I am still losing weight and I actually have energy to do things! What in particular has you on the fence?

I think the recovery - reading a lot about the struggles a lot of people have faced along the way - and then the whole " I can only eat 4 bites of food " thing freaks me out . I truly am terrified of complications too.

It is very difficult to adjust to not being able to eat the same things you used to eat but the harder part for me is not being able to eat the same amount of food. I stuck to the pre-op diet very strictly and I just told myself that I HAD to have the surgery because it will prevent me from overeating my way to being obese. If you REALLY want to lose weight, you will adapt to these changes better. Good luck with your decision!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
