Cream of wheat the cause of dumping?

Recommended Posts

I'm 7 days post op and I had the sleeve done. I finally got tired of Soup, Water, and Protein Shakes so I made some thin cream of wheat, which is on my list of approved foods for full liquids. I ate 1/2 cup and a few minutes after I was finished I got very lightheaded and had to lay down. It lasted for about 15 minutes. I've heard of it happening with greasy or sweet foods, but it hadn't crossed my mind that cream of wheat might have that effect on me. Has anyone else had that happen or with any food that seemed as though it would be "safe"?

On our program, we were limited to high Protein. Cream of wheat didn't fit into that category. Though I am sure you probably didn't eat a whole serving which has like 23g of carbs, it was probably dumping from carbs. 'safe', is different for everyone. Some can do cream of wheat, some can't, regardless of whether your Dr calls them safe or not.

Thanks! My surgeon wanted us to focus on getting all the Fluid we can this week instead of Protein. Isn't it crazy how different each surgeon's guidelines are? I'm not going to lie, if that's what it feels like to have carbs now I'm kind of happy about it. I don't want to feel it again so it's a great deterrent 😂

Cream of wheat was on my program and I ate a metric feck ton of it. Never experienced dumping.

I do, however, get nauseated if I eat more than a couple bites of a rich dessert these days. Don't often have them, but when I do, those two bites are delicious and I know to stop:)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
