Pre op diet/ upset

Recommended Posts

So day 2 of pre op diet and it’s so hard [emoji30] I’m starving [emoji24][emoji24] but I gotta do what I gotta do

I still haven’t got a date so I’m still going through clearances... dr won’t clear me until I get ultrasound that she ordered a month ago?! & a mri that she also ordered a month ago! I’m annoyed, everything was going so good. So fr I’ve only gotten the EKG clearance I’m not sure if she sent it to the office or is she waiting for me to do the mri& ultra sound to get Medically cleared to send with it [emoji30] I’m just drained

Why are you on the pre op diet if you don't have a surgery date yet?

One of the clearances my doctor requested was for me to loose 10 to 20 pounds before. So he suggested I go on this diet. 2 Protein Shakes & 1 regular meal a day.

What are the MRI and ultrasound of? That’s a bit unusual. Liver?

No , i had back issues/surgery before but it’s acting up again so she had requested for a mri of my lumbar spine, it has nothing to do with the weight loss surgery neither does the ultrasound, but she said she won’t clear me unless I get those things done

I just was thinking if my surgeon suddenly decides he wants an abdominal ultra sound both my gastroenterologist and cardiologist have done them within the last 3 months. GI for liver and intestinal, cardiologist to rule out abdominal aortic aneurysm potentiality. Still don't have my firm date, dang it.

I was able to lose 100 pounds Pre Op by going Keto and eating as if I had already been sleeved. This time before the surgery will Help you get prepared for life Post Op. Keeping your Protein High and your Carbs low will help you trim that 20 in a Hurry. Head Hunger is terrible but once you learn to tell the difference between it and true Hunger you will have a tool to build your future with. Good Luck

If you are truly hungry (not head hungry) is there a reason you couldn't add in one more shake? Are you tracking calories? If not you should consider. If your one meal a day ends up blowing it out of the Water because you're starving yourself on the shakes you'll end up sabotaged. FYI- When I make my shakes I add in extra ice and leave it a little crunchy. Something to chew during the day definitely helps with that need.

Keto is when your body goes in Ketosis and burns your fat stores instead of using your food for energy. I eat mostly meat Dairy and Green Vegetables. I try to keep my daily Carbs under 20 a day.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
