Does your stomach feel normal?

Recommended Posts

I know after surgery you can be in pain...some more than others. Do you actually feel like your stomach has been cut? If so, when does that feeling (pain) go away? After 6 or so months when your stomach is supposed to have healed fully, do you still feel your stomach or do you forget anything ever happened?

I’m only six days out, but I don’t have any feeling of it being cut per se. However, when I consumed liquids in the first couple of days, I definitely knew there was a wall as there was a mild discomfort as the liquids were going down. I still have that feeling, but can drink much more. Not sure when it will go away.

Outside of the fact that my stomach has limited capacity, I don't feel any different than I felt pre-op.

I definitely felt it for about 3 days after surgery. Then, it went away. The incisions did itch a bit during the healing process, like any cut.

Don’t feel by different- just can’t eat or drink much. Otherwise I’d swear they didn’t do surgery hahha

No abnormal feelings. In fact I've had a few times where I forget and gulp a drink or eat too fast and am reminded quickly!

I can't seem to eat slow enough! I get pain in my stomach and burp a lot. Any tips from anyone that helps?

A couple basic ones you already probably know. Use a cocktail fork or spoon or baby silverware to help you take small bites. Chew 25 times (I actually count a lot of the time). Put your silverware down in between bites. For me the chewing is the most important, if I do that then I can eat relatively quickly.

I'm 8 days out, and my stomach is a little more gurgley than normal, but otherwise feels normal. I can drink pretty freely. Sometime I forget and gulp and it just feels a tiny bit weird.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
