2 week pre op diet

Recommended Posts

To me, the 2 week pre-op diet (followed by another two weeks of eating nothing after surgery) was the most hellish part of the ordeal.

There's no way to sugar coat it. It sucks. All you can do is get through it a day at a time.

By day 3-4 your will is broken and you resign yourself to your fate. Gets easier after that...and also freakier.

I wish you the best during this tough stretch. If I can do it (and I did) anyone can. But it ain't easy:)

Take it a day at a time. You'll make it.

I am doing sugar-free, zero calorie popsicles. They seem to be doing the trick.

I might be alone on this....but I've always preferred the ugly truth to "comforting" lies.

But of course, it's subjective. There might be weirdos out there who actually enjoy drinking all their meals for a month. Who knows?

I liked to pour caramel Premier Protein into decaff coffee. Tasted like a weird new Starbuck's flavor. LOL.

I also cheated slightly and drank the clear broth from Chinese take out Wonton Soup a couple of times. (God, it was good) Absolutely no wontons, though...my puppy got those.

Word of advice...if you cheat (DONT CHEAT!!!!) but if you do...eat only lean Protein or nonstarchy veggies...nothing with sugar/carbs or you'll run the risk of having your surgery cancelled because your liver didn't shrink.

Again...the official answer is Don't Cheat.

I started to drink carbonated diet sodas or Perrier... another option is Metamucil or psyllium husk with Water (tastes horrible but works as the psyllium expands in ur stomach. don't overdue the aspartame as it can be bad if u take to much of it...

Wow, thank you for that advice. I did just eat a dove chocolate. I will give them to coworkers immediately.

Protein protein protein! Don’t deviate from the plan. I preferred Garden of Life powder with Almond milk but the Premier shakes are good to. Best deal is at costco & I think they have Orgain powder for 7.50 off right now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
