I was approved to stay two nights if that was my preference, but I hate being in the hospital. I made it out in just under 24 hours:)

Scheduled for 2 nights but ended up being 5 or nights due to complications. By the last day I was about to climb out the window to escape. Loved the staff but after nearly a week there I had my fill.

One night. If the morning staff had been efficient, it could have been less than 24 hrs. The only positive for being at the hospital vs. home is better drugs.

Doctor told me when I have my sleeve (late May-ish) it will be done outpatient as a surgical center adjacent to the hospital. If something goes wrong they'll take me to the hospital and admit me so I should have an overnight bag prepared, just in case.

Could have left by the next day, but opted for two nights, for extra care and some alone time before heading back to my kiddos.

Wow! I had my foot reconstructed, outpatient but at a hospital. Bones, tendons, ligments, fascia. Dang it hurt at home, and no intravenous drugs to help out! Good luck!

I was in by 10 am one day and home by 5:30 pm the next. My stay was a bit like sillykitty's in that it could have been shorter but for hospital foot dragging.

I expect my wife will have a nice stash of strong stuff if I need to borrow any since she'll be having her knee replaced a few weeks before I have my sleeve done. Now I finally know why we had kids: To take care of us in our middle age...

I was in 2 nights, home for a bit over 12 hours and back for another 4 nights due to a complication. The looks I got coming back onto the floor were priceless

Incredibly bad idea. This is a great way to get a leak.

Your doc will prescribe meds your stomach can tolerate if you need any. Never use unprescribed meds with your new stomach.

Yeah elforman, the problem will be unless they are Tylenol based you may be up poo poo creek without a paddle. Remember no more NSAIDS!!

Don't worry, I'm not crazy enough to take anyone else's prescription for anything. Admittedly, since I'm still about three months away from my surgery date, I've got plenty of time to figure out which of my regular medications I'll be able to take and which I may have to get substitutes for.

Although I do appreciate your specifically mentioning NSAIDs. I take Mobic (meloxicam) daily for arthritis so I'll certainly have to find something else I can tolerate before then to make sure I can continue using my arms without pain.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
