I hate the gym. I hate it every single time I go. I hate walking in place and biking no where. I can't wait until it warms up and I can actually go out and DO stuff. When it gets above 25 degrees F or so, my husband and I go for hikes. But since we live in Minnesota, that hasn't been very often this winter. What's worse, I would really like to try the pool (doing laps, etc) but I'm kind of chicken and I haven't had the guts to get in the pool yet.
BUT... I go to the gym, at least 3-4 days a week. I bike 4 miles and I walk for as long as I can stand it. I try some different weight machines. I do this because I worked for 8 months to make this change for my life. I am giving myself a second chance at life and I can't screw this up.

Awesome! Yes you will be fine you won’t screw anything up babe! I do the bike also [emoji4]

I bought a weighted jump rope to work out at home. I jump in time to music

When I do go to the gym which is rare I tend to warm up on the treadmill then do a few machines.

Nice! Good idea. Surprisingly this is the first time someone told me about jump rope

I haven’t had the sleeve yet but I am in the process. I am starting with a semi-low BMI so our NUT recommends only weight lifting for the first 6 months, with basically saving cardio for a warmup and cool down. I am doing more cardio now and it bores me to death. I was a runner before my TKR so I the elliptical is torturous.

What is a Barre class?

It’s ballet based group exercise class—

http://purebarre.com/

I tried it and it wasn’t my thing but it definitely works the lower body especially.

Lots of gyms also do classes like Body Pump. Group weight training type thing in the aerobics room. I liked doing that for a while.

Have you had a trainer at the gym work with you? Often times they will set up a program for you for a nominal fee or even give you three free sessions with fun membership.

Then there’s the CrossFit/functional exercise type thing. My son and sister do that and I like to go to those on occasion, but the box jumps kill me.

Now I do yoga and run. I’ve found I’m a more mellow, zen type with exercise. I would say it’s cheaper than a gym but the yoga studios are pricey! I could do yoga at home, but I prefer having an instructor.

So many choices! I wish we had an orange theory fitness nearby I think I would like that. I also like TRX a lot. You work with straps and body weight resistance. Started as a military thing.

Some good ideas here. I personally don't love the gym (I get bored easily and when I do go it's usually for weights (bulk) - otherwise I do cardio on machines at home). I do a lot of outside exercise, biking, running, kayaking etc, which is always entertaining and dynamic, but not always possible due to weather etc. There are often local groups for biking or other outdoor stuff you can join and that can be really motivational (I do biking groups in the summer)

Some other ideas (I'm not doing any of these - but have friends who are and am planning on trying some out):

Crossfit - cardio and strength workout. it's kind of like a cult, but I have a ton of friends who do it and love it. They are short and very intense workouts. I'm planning on trying it on one of the free days when I'm in a bit better shape
Aqua Aerobics - Again have some friends who do this and say its super fun and a great workout
Swimming - Currently looking for a place to learn technique for distance, but do swim a lot and its am amazing full body workout

Yes thank you!! I was thinking of starting to take a swimming class actually. Maybe I should follow through with it now

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
