Excellent First Fill

Recommended Posts

I had, for the most part, a great first fill. My band is 9.75, I was hoping to try 2cc for my first fill. The tech who did it was inamed certified, he does, it seems most of the local fills. He averages 130 each month! He had me stand, he palpitated around my port area till he had a good feel for it, one stick, then he leaves the needle/shot in while we play around with the quantity of saline. He put in 2cc. Then he had me drink, and wait for the sensations to change. At 2.5 cc I could feel enough restriction with just Water, that he backed it off to 2. The better safe then sorry mentality. He termed one sensation, like 'feeling the water in the back of my throat'. I didn't exactly feel that, but I did feel pressure or some type of sensation in the back of my throat. I know it worked, because I feel very cautious even when drinking. I am not in any hurry to irritate or rush things, and end up throwing up. so I just drank stuff today, my water, coffee, gatorade, v8, had a popsicle for dinner. I was able to take allergy medicine, so pills are ok so far. No port pain. Just an increased awareness of my band. Thats what I wanted.:clap2:

I feel the same way as you do about being conservative about the fills and my doctor also has that view. I realize this can all take longer but I don't care. I'd rather be comfortable and adjust to each fill than go through some of the symptoms of overfilling that I've read about.

Thanks for sharing your positive experience! I hope it continues that way!

Fills are when they add the saline to the band to close it off more and enable you to eat less, with the feeling of being full. Usually you wont get one till at least a month after your surgery, to let the band settle in place

Actually, your BMI is not really high. My BMI is 35 and that is considered on the low side for lapband surgery. You may have trouble finding a surgeon who will perform the surgery on you with such a low BMI.

I am scheduled for my first fill on Nov. 6th. I'm really nervous about it. I was sick last week, had some throwing up, due to an infection. Hope all is still well in there with my band, it worried me when I got so sick. But I feel better now and I'm waiting for my first fill to get here.

Well, I had my first fill and it was not bad at all. I can feel the restriction now. Hope I start to loose more weight now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
