I looked at my surgery booklet and nowhere did it say we couldn’t drink Red and purple drinks, I’m freaking out because I’ve had a few sugar free red and purple popsicles and Jello and drinks . I read this on a different forum that you couldn’t, have anyone else heard of this and why?

Yeah I can 'splain, red and purple items stain your gastrointestinal system. Imagine you're a doctor going in to do an endoscopy, colonoscopy or other gastric surgery. You're bebopping along with your fiber-optic tube or whatever, all the sudden you see a clump of something purple-red ahead. Granted it could be leftover Jello or popsicle, but are you going to consider that's all it is? Nope your medical radar goes off--Blood Clot Ahead! In the words of the 70-80s TV series "Danger Will Robinson Danger!" And you are compelled to search further.

Is it worth it to give your surgeon nervous prostration or a heart attack? Nope don't think so, so stick to other shades of popsicles etc. Your friendly purveyor of semi-useless information. Lil Me

Usually they don't want you to have anything red 24 hours prior to surgery. I've heard that it's more of concern of coughing up any phlegm or saliva while being under giving concern to the anesthesiologist that you’re bleeding. It’s simply a precautionary thing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
