Sanchez40 15 Posted February 19, 2018 Hello, I’m 2 months in with my doctor visits and I really hate my job, I want to find another job but I’m scared I won’t be able to keep it if I have surgery in July, I’m so miserable, I’m not to sure on what to do. I’m very new to this, can someone please give me some advice?
Sosewsue61 3,185 Posted February 19, 2018 Hang in there. Most companies make new hires wait a year to do elective surgeries. You don't state the insurance issue, and you might have out of pocket expenses etc. Do your research carefully.

It won’t be cheap at all though but will be better than paying out of pocket for your surgery!
kakatlady612 1,053 Posted February 19, 2018 COBRA had I elected to keep my former plan would have cost me $700. my Social Security is less than $1000 and I still would have to pay utilities, food and shelter out of it. Never expected to rely on Medicare/Medicaid at my age, oh and it gets worse. I lost a portion of my Medicaid benefits at the end of 2017, why? Seems I would have to receive $7000 or less a year to fully qualify. I became rich when I wasn't,looking? Geeesh.Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app 1 AceBlaque reacted to this
Sanchez40 15 Posted February 19, 2018 Oh my goodness, guys thanks for replying back to me, I forgot to mention I’m on my husband’s insurance so I’m not worried about that, but let’s say I find a new job in March or April, and I get a surgery date in June or July I don’t think the new job would appreciate me taking time off. AceBlaque 17 Posted February 19, 2018 Does your current job offer short term disability or FMLA...or would your job you're seeking offer either? Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
Sanchez40 15 Posted February 19, 2018 My current job offers disability.
AceBlaque 17 Posted February 19, 2018 You have a few options depending on how soon you want to leave your current job...you can take short term disability which can run concurrent with your FMLA and protect your job while you have surgery and are healing. You would still be able to receive a portion of your pay while healing and preparing/searching for your new job. That would give you up to 12wks without worrying as much or dealing with on the job issues that are often stressful. Your physicians office will know the process as well.Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

AceBlaque 17 Posted February 20, 2018 No problem, I was a similar situation as you but my issue was that I had to keep the position because of the insurance coverage, im glad your insurance is through your spouse so that it isn't an issue with your surgery or staying on a job that is stressful to what you are trying to accomplish. If you have any questions on how to get your disability/FMLA, inbox me...keep us posted!Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app 2 BRAY and Sanchez40 reacted to this
