Weight loss at first postoperative visit predicts long-term outcome of RNY

Recommended Posts

Fascinating study, the results of which should answer lots of "what did you lose at x months" questions. For me, this also provides some large-sample data for which I can set some achievable and realistic goals and expectations for my own progress. Comparison is the thief of joy, but I love looking at peer-reviewed studies.

I’m trying to read this... does it really say that even the 95th %ile doesn’t lose 100% of excess weight?

I just checked my stats and I was pretty consistently at the 90th %ile but I lost greater than 100% if 100% puts you at a BMI of 25.

No, I don't think so. I see a slight upward slope for those in the 90th and 95th percentiles, meaning that the weight loss continues for these high achievers, albeit at a slower rate. You beat the odds. You're doing great! Now please share your success factors. :D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
