I'm 5'0 and 218lbs. I heard that at these figures I will lose much slower.

Does anybody have any experience being short and in the lower 200's?

How fast did you lose? (I know a slower rate is best but realistically with WLS its different)

I'm getting Gastric Sleeve April 2018!!!!!!!!!! Yayy!!!!!!!

Congrats on getting your surgery date! very exciting.

Your rate of weight loss is going to be a unique experience to you. There is no way to predict how fast/slow your weight loss will be.

This is not a race. You will lose weight is what's important. :)

Weight loss is personalized to you, your body, how well you follow the program and willingness not to fail. Someone in my support group had posted this.

I'm 5'2 and started at 225, so similar to yours

I don't see how these numbers would make us lose slower, i think it's very individual and based on diet and exercise as well.

I'm only 5 days post sleeve so i can't say yet.

Good luck!

The reason I heard that it would be slower is we have a lot less to lose than say someone who is 300+ lbs. It is similar to why someone who is 125lbs finds it harder to lose 5 lbs because. I am much closer to my goal weight (not close enough, which is why I'm having the surgery) than someone heavier. Someone who is heavier could lose 60 pounds easily in 2-3 months after sleeve vs someon in lower 200's would only average around 20-30.

I am just wondering on other's whose statistics are closer to mine, how their experience has been for them thus far.

I look forward to hearing your guys' journeys.

I thought of that too, it might be less as a 300+ lbs person in the same amount of time, but it'll be relative still, that's what I'm expecting.
The way my dr put it is that the surgery will help you lose 70% of excess weight, and i would think I'll get there at the one year mark.

But this is an interesting thought that you brought up, let's stay in touch and see how this goes!!

This makes me feel better. I'm 3 months out and down 60. I thought I was losing too slowly.

I started at 370.

I'm 310 now.

Surgery was 11/21

Sorry, this was something a lady in my support group posted. I do not think her doctor had an idea for patients under 200 lbs starting.

Remember, no matter how slow you think you are losing. Progress is still progress.

Also, you can try dividing your weight loss. So you lost 20lbs a month average, 5lbs a week average. That is a great amount of loss.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
