Dumping what does it feel like?

Recommended Posts

So I’m not sure how dumping feels, I had gastric bypass a year ago and sometimes just feels really sick for a while gets hot and can’t really explain the feeling, not sure if it’s dumping because it happens and it would be without eating are drinking so just curious I just know it wasn’t happening before I had the surgery, by the way I love my decision, 117 pounds down

I start sweating, get dizzy, and my heart races. I get the back door trots and get very sick to my tummy. Basically, I never know what is going to set me into "The Foamy's" Sometimes it will be something I had ate before. It also feels like I am going to throw up. It also feels like I have something stuck, feels like it is in my throat. The sad thing is if and when I have thrown up I immediately feel better. I also hav e to lie down. I get so weak and shaky. I also have what my Dr calls rebound blood sugar. He said that my blood sugar gets to low and then my body pushes insulin into my body making my blood sugar HIGH. Weird feeling for sure. I hope this helps. I'm sorry that I went on and on. Have a great Sunday!!

All of the above explains dumping. Not always will you have diarrhea or other symptoms of dumping.

I get hot sweats and stomach cramps whenever I try to eat milk chocolate or regular ice cream. I didn’t get diarrhea but I still had the sensation of dumping as I wanted to throw up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
