Freeeezing..what does it mean?

Recommended Posts

Ok..I've been freezing since I've had surgery back in January. But now I'm noticing when I go to bed that only my right foot and right hand is cold. Not just cold, but painfully cold. Why is it only one side and what does it mean??

Since surgery both hands, feet, and my nose are almost always cold. I attribute it to the lower calorie intake.. and the insulation reduction :car:

My Dr told me that it is because you are taking in a lot less calories and your body is not having to work to burn them. I know that whenever I get a fill and have to do liquids for a couple days I get really cold. Im not to sure about the insulation thing because I was freezing even when I was 300 pounds. The calorie thing deffinitly makes sence to me. But I am happy about it. Before lap band I was always hot and now my electric bill has gone down. My hubby is happy about that.

I lost 70 pounds once years ago and I was freezing all the time. I'm actually looking forward to that part of my banded life because my boyfriend and I are constantly in a thermostat battle because I keep things too cold for him and he keeps things too hot for me.

I will have to show this thread to my DH. He has been constantly asking if others experience the cold like we do. I've assured him I have see others with the same problem. For me..the night after the surgery...that was the beginning. Usually I'm a t-shirt in winter type but now I bundle up all the time and take extra care not to get cold.

I keep thinkin can this really be me? Have I really turned into one of the skinny Bi#@es that are always cold? I've actually used a small heater under my desk already this year and I bought an electric throw blanket to use in front of the TV at night. I can remember being outside in nothing but a sweater on a day that was in the mid 40's pre-band and thinkin what's all the fuss about it being cold? This is just a nice brisk day. This year there have actually been many times this summer I complained to my husband he had the airconditioner set to cold even in the car.

If you are only experiencing cold on one side of the body that kinda sounds like some kinda circulation problem, then again it could be nothing, I'd check with my doc just to make sure. Also, being cold could be a result of low Iron or at least my doc tells me so.

I'm always cold. My husband laughs at me because I'm always putting on two jackets and a sweater. hahaha. I was always the one that was too hot and throwing the blanket off throughout the night.

Ghost - I think we're twins!!! lol

I won't even turn on the AC in the car unless Hubby is with me. I'm freezing - hands, feet, and nose ALL the time! I carry a sweater and a blanket in the car, just in case.

I'm definitely going to have to get an electric blanket - ooooh I can almost feel the warmth now!! :boink:

I absolutely LOVE my electric throw blanket but for the bed my suggestio is to get a heated mattress pad instead of the blanket. We've had that for years now. It has dual controls for either side of the bed and is designed to get warmer from around your knees down. DH & I have just switched rolls on who turns it on the higher setting and at what times of year.

It's hard for me to believe when we were first married we actually managed to have a window freeze open because I needed some "fresh air" at night to breathe.

i'm cold all of the time now. i always get really cold after i eat. my co workers make fun of me all of the time because i'm always freezing at work.

i used to get warm at night though, but since surgery I am freezing at night. (i haven't lost enough weight for it to be insulation problems). i have to wear sweats and a t shirt with a sweat shirt, 2 pair of socks, and i almost wear a toboggin (sp), and i have a sheet and 4 blankets on the bed (one is wool) and i have the thermostat at 73. then, on top of being cold, i have cold sweats that i have never had before. it is making sleep miserable.

OK, I'm glad to see others have had this problem, too. I'm Freezing. I wear a hooded sweatshirt over my pajama pants and shirt with socks to bed, under two comforters and I'm still freezing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
